Alabama Water Watch is seeking nominations from program participants and partners to recognize outstanding volunteers.
Nominations will be open through March 5th. Winners will be notified at the end of March and will be presented with their award at the 2025 AWW Annual Meeting in Foley, AL on Saturday, June 21.
This Call for Nominations pertains to three awards:
Lifetime Achievement Award
Eric Reutebuch Water Spirit Award
Schulman Biodiversity Award
Award Details
The Lifetime Achievement Award is the highest honor bestowed upon an individual or group within the volunteer water quality monitoring community. This award is reserved for those who have demonstrated exceptional service, unwavering commitment, and remarkable accomplishments over an extended period in the pursuit of safeguarding and rehabilitating watersheds through the practice of water monitoring.

The Eric Reutebuch Water Spirit Award recognizes and honors a person, group, or organization that exemplifies a spirit of involvement, enthusiasm, and concern for water resources in Alabama and beyond. The recipient of this award takes the definition of “water spirit” to another level by truly loving all things related to water, instilling love and respect for water in others, and dedicating their life’s work to protecting and restoring water quality.

The Schulman Biodiversity Guardian Award was inspired by and named after Marty Schulman, who was an integral part of the Watercress Darter Monitoring Program that integrated AWW monitoring into the protection of the endangered Watercress Darter, a small and beautiful fish found only in a small area of Alabama. Recipients of this award have incorporated water monitoring with AWW into specific efforts aimed at protecting and restoring Alabama’s biodiversity.
